#### special abilities
### Ability Drain (Su)
On a successful melee touch attack with a forelimb, the thorciasid draina 1d4+1 Strength, 1d4+1 Dexterity, and 1 point of Constitution. The thorciasid regains 20 lost hit points with each successful ability drain. Excess hit points are wasted.
### Cocoon (Ex)
As a standard action, a thorciasid can eject a stream of noxious goo that hardens on contact, potentially fixing a subject in place and hindering its movement and actions. The thorciasid makes a ranged touch attack against a creature with 60 feet. If it succeeds, the thorciasid can make a grapple attempt at a +10 bonus against the creature. Succeeding in this check means that the victim is grappled in the cocoon, but the thorciasid does not gain the grappled condition, nor does it need to spend any effort to maintain the grapple. The cocooned creature can escape the cocoon like any other grapple. The coccon's CMD is equal to the thorciasid's CMD +10. If the thorciasid starts its turn with a creature grappled in the cocoon, it can make another combat maneuver as a standard action to pin the creature within the cocoon. This requires another ranged touch attach and another combat maneuver check (again with the +10 bonus). A thorciasid can continue to reinforce the cocoon by taking additional standard actions. Each success raises the cocoons CMD by 5. It cannot use this ability to damage creatures.
### Energy Drain (Su)
On a successful melee touch attack with an antenna, the thorciasid gives the victim one negative level. Each negative level bestowed upon a victim gives the thorciasid +1 bonus to its Constitution that lasts for 24 hours. The negative levels similarly last for 24 hours, at which time the victim must make a Fortitude saving throw (DC 34) to avoid level loss. The save DC is Charisma-based.

Thorciasids are the ultimate parasite, preying on thevery life force of all other creatures.Thorciasids are insectoid creatures. Like a particu-larly lean (and monstrously large) cockroach, a thorci-asid is quick, multilimbed, and the color of burnt wood.It scuttles about on four hind limbs, using two fiendishforelimbs and two writhing antennae to deliver life-draining attacks.Thorciasids can be found anywhere, but usuallyprefer dark, shadowed parts of the area they infest.Thorciasids sometimes cocoon their prey against futureneeds, hiding them away in large, multichambered, cunningly hidden nests built on the undersides ofbuildings, cliffsides, sewers, very large seagoing orplanar-going craft, or other even more surpris-ing areas.Thorciasids speak Common, Elven,Dwarven, and Giant.
