When a creature takes Constitution drain from voidfire, the shadow of the void gains 5 temporary hit points for each point of Constitution drained. These temporary hit points last for up to one hour. The save DC is Charisma-based. ### Voidflame Aura (Su) Shadows of the void emit a 10-foot aura of voidfire. Undead in the area gain channel resistance +6 and fast healing 10, while creatures in the area (including undead) take 4d6 cold damage. ### Create Spawn (Su) Any humanoid slain by a shadow of the void or its voidfire becomes a winterwight in 1d4 rounds. Winterwights are under the command of the shadow of the void that created them and remain enslaved until its destruction. A shadow of the void can have a number of enslaved spawn totaling at most double its own Hit Dice; any spawn it creates that would exceed this limit become free-willed undead. Winterwights do not possess any of the abilities they had in life, though they do possess general knowledge of the slain creature. #### ecology **Terrain** Any **Organization** Solitary or gang (2-5) **Treasure** None **Advancement** 36–42 HD (Large); 43–70 HD (Huge) A shadow of the void is a manifestation of cold malevolence, the spirit of one condemned in the afterlife to an eternity of frosty conflagration. A shadow of the void appears to be a 10-foot-tall incorporeal humanoid made of voidfire: blackflames that crackle with cold energy. The only discernible feature of a shadow of the void is its two blue, piercing eyes. Shadows of the void are usually found far from the Material Plane, sometimes accompanied by a winterwight or two. The creatures known as winterwights were originally created by shadows of the void, though winter-wights have also been created artificially by powerful demiliches. Whenever a shadow of the void discovers an artificially created winterwight, the shadow attempts to slay it. ### Combat Shadows of the void prefer to close with their opponents, and use their step up and strike ability to ensure their prey does not escape. They are especially fond of harrying spellcasters, as magic is usually the only salvation of those the shadow of the void wish to see burn. ## Voidfire A shadow of the void generates a tenacious form of cold damage called voidfire. This blue-white energy looks similar to fire, but only affects living flesh, and deals cold damage. Cold resistance and immunity do not apply to this damage unless it is supplemented with resistance or immunity to negative energy, such as that provided by _death ward_. Creatures immune to one form of energy and resistant to another (such as an undead creature with cold resistance) gains the lesser of the two protections against voidfire.
