Creatures in the area of effect must succeed on a DC 33 Fortitude save or take 24d6 damage. A successful save reduces the damage to 12. Creatures reduced to 0 or fewer hit points by this attack are reduced to a pile of ash, as if by _disintegration_. ### Heated Flesh (Ex) Any metal weapon striking a a pyroclastic dragon must succeed at a DC 33 Fortitude save or melt and gain the broken condition. Another strike by the same weapon causes the metal weapon to be destroyed if it fails a second save. Wood weapons are destroyed after only one failed save. Unarmed and natural attacks made against the pyroclastic dragon deal 12 points of fire damage to the attacker. ### Lava Walk (Su) A pyroclastic dragon can stand on the surface of magma (or any liquid) as if it were firm ground. ### Meteor Blast (Su) Three times per day, a great wyrm pyroclastic dragon can spit four globs of molten rock at any targets within 100 feet. Hitting a creature with with these globs is a ranged touch attack. Creatures hit by the globs take 2d6 points of bludgeoning damage. Upon impact, they each explode in a 40-foot radius spread, dealing 6d6 damage to each creature in the area. Half this damage is fire, the other half is sonic. If a creature is within the area of more than one sphere, it must save separately against each. Despite stemming from separate spheres, all of the fire and sonic damage are added together after the saves have been made, and energy resistance is applied only once. Creatures stuck by a molten glob take a .–4 penalty on the saving throw against that glob’s damage. ### Meteor Blast (Su) Three times per day, a great wyrm pyroclastic dragon can spit four globs of molten rock at any targets within 100 feet. Creatures stuck by a molten glob take a -4 penalty on the saving throw against that glob’s damage. ### Oppressive Heat (Ex) The sweltering heat produced by a pyroclastic dragon is difficult to endure. Any creature who takes fire damage from a pyroclastic dragon's extraordinary or supernatural abilities is sickened for 12 rounds. This ability has no effect on creatures that are already sickened. ### Volcanic Cloud (Su) An old or older pyroclastic dragon can use its breath weapon to belch forth a cloud of volcanic ash in a 40-foot radius spread centered on itself. Creatures in area take 6d6 fire damage, and must succeed on a DC 33 Fortitude save or become nauseated for one round. Any creature who starts their turn in the cloud or enters it takes 6d6 damage and must save against being nauseated. The smoke obscures all sight as a fog cloud does, and can be dispersed by wind in the same manner. The cloud persists for 12 rounds. #### ecology **Environment:** Any (Gehenna) **Organization** Solitary (1 dragon, any age), clutch (1d4+1 wyrmlings, very young, young, or juveniles or young adults), family (pair of mature adults and 1d4+1 offspring) **Treasure** Triple **Advancement** By age category Pyroclastic dragons are creatures of elemental fury, embodying the forces of fire, earth, and rumbling thunder that move earth and shape continents. They are native to the Bleak Eternity of Gehenna, an infinite plane of volcanic earthbergs and infernal lava. A pyroclastic dragon is solidly built and powerfully muscled, conveying a sense of immovability. Its scales resemble fractured obsidian and glowing magma, forming a mottled pattern of reds, oranges, blacks, and grays over its entire body. Its large wings seem almost to be made of ash, but despite their flimsy appearance they are quite capable of bearing the dragon’s great weight aloft. Pyroclastic dragons enjoy swimming through magma, but they make their lairs in caves carved out of volcanic rock. When they venture to the Material Plane, they live only in volcanic regions. These dragons enjoy the taste of meat but can also subsist on a purely mineral diet. ### Combat Pyroclastic dragons have all the subtlety of a volcanic eruption—they may simmer and hiss for a time, but when they erupt at last their fury is unmatched.
