Its vision and blindsense can detect ethereal creatures as if they were on the material plane. The presence of such creatures has an ephemeral cast, allowing the ethereal dragon to easily distinguish between ethereal and non-ethereal creatures. ### Ethereal Scales (Ex) An ethereal dragon applies half its natural armor bonus to AC against incorporeal touch attacks. ### Ethereal Step (Su) While on the ethereal plane, an old or older ethereal dragon has a constant _freedom of movement_ effect. ### Ethereal Storm (Su) As a standard action, a great wyrm ethereal dragon can create an ethereal storm centered on itself with a radius of 1,200 feet. Creatures on the ethereal plane take 4d6 damage per round, and are subjected to the effects of a windstorm. Incorporeal creatures on the ethereal or material plane are affected by the windstorm in the same manner. Corporeal creatures on the material plane can feel the ethereal winds, but are not physically affected by them. Instead, the strange surging of energies are expressed as sense of unease and wrongness. Corporeal creatures in the area take a –2 penalty on attack rolls, saving throws, ability checks, skill checks, and weapon damage rolls. The storm lasts for 1 hour, but can be dismissed by the ethereal dragon as a free action. ### Ethereal Stride (Ex) An ethereal dragon can move through any sort of naturally occurring hazard or impediment of the ethereal plane at their normal speed and without taking damage. An ethereal dragon is not affected by ethereal winds. ### Force Tempest (Su) An ethereal dragon can use it's breath weapon to create a tempest of roiling force up to 100 feet away, affecting a 5-foot-radius area per age category. The cloud persists for 3 round per age category, and cannot be dispersed by material effects. Creatures in the area take 20d6 force damage on the first round, 10d6 force damage on the second round and 5d6 force damage on the third round. The area impedes attacks, damage and movement in a manner similar to a _solid fog_. ### Transdimensional Essence (Su) An ethereal dragon can freely extend its body into the ethereal plane even while on the material plane. An ethereal dragon's natural attacks effect incorporeal and ethereal creatures as if they were force effects. Such creates take full damage from an ethereal dragon's natural attacks. Furthermore, an ethereal dragon may its natural armor bonus to AC against incorporeal touch attacks. #### ecology **Environment:** Any (Ethereal) **Organization** Solitary (1 dragon, any age), clutch (1d4+1 wyrmlings, very young, young, or juveniles or young adults), family (pair of mature adults and 1d4+1 offspring) **Treasure** Triple **Advancement** By age category Ethereal dragons spend most of their lives floating through the Ethereal Plane, spying into the Material Plane for valuable treasure. Ethereal dragons’ natural coloration is a pearlescent brown-gray, which accounts for their nickname of “moonstone dragon.” They have needlelike claws and teeth. Ethereal dragons are naturally curious and inquisitive, and often spy on those “stuck” on the Material Plane. They are also greedy, and may come to covet the valuables carried by those they spy upon. In such cases, an ethereal dragon might visit the Material Plane only to appropriate such items, returning to its native Ethereal Plane as soon as possible. ### Combat Most ethereal dragons prefer escape over battle, heading either to the Ethereal Plane or the Material Plane to avoid conflict. If forced into a fight, or if the ethereal dragon feels combat is necessary, it uses its powers to frustrate its foes. An adult or older ethereal dragon relies on dimensional anchor to trap opponents on one plane while it escapes to the other.
