#### special abilities
### Armor of Entropy Su)
The entropic field that surrounds a chaos dragon affects melee attacks and melee touch attacks. Each melee attack directed at a chaos dragon has a 20% miss chance.
### Confusing Breath (Su)
Instead of a line of fluctuating energy, a chaos dragon can breathe a 60-foot cone of confusing gas. Creatures within the cone must succeed on a DC 30 Will save or be confused for 1d6+1 rounds. This is a mind-affecting, compulsion effect.
### Cloak of Entropy (Su)
The entropic field that surrounds a chaos dragon affects magical spells and effects. Any spell or spell-like ability cast at the chaos dragon has a 20% chance of automatically failing to penetrate spell resistance, as if the chaos dragon had spell immunity. Effects are subject to spell resistance and require an attack roll (such as ray or touch-range spells) only applies miss chance once.
### Fluctuating Energy (Su)
When a chaos dragon uses its standard breath weapon, the energy type it uses is determined randomly. If a dual-result is rolled, the breath weapon deals half its damage with each energy type.
| 1d10 | Energy type |
| ---- | ------------------------ |
| 1-2 | acid |
| 3-4 | cold |
| 5-6 | electricity |
| 7-8 | fire |
| 9 | sonic |
| 10 | roll twice, ignoring 10s |
Even the dragon itself doesn't know which type of energy it will emit before it actually breathes.
### Shield of Entropy (Su)
A field of swirling, multi-colored chaotic energy surrounds a chaos dragon. This field deflects incoming arrows, rays, and other ranged attacks. Each ranged attack directed at the chaos dragon for which the attacker must make an attack roll has a 20% miss chance.
### Veil of Confusion (Su)
A chaos dragon is invisible to any creature that is confused. Abilities that allow a creature to see the invisible or pierce illusions (such as _see invisibility, true seeing_ or blindsight) function normally, but ability that highlight or reveal invisible creatures (such as _invisibility purge_ or _faerie fire_) do not.
#### ecology
**Environment:** Any (Limbo)
**Organization** Solitary (1 dragon, any age), clutch (1d4+1 wyrmlings, very young, young, or juveniles or young adults), family (pair of mature adults and 1d4+1 offspring)
**Treasure** Triple

The very personification of unpredictability, a chaos dragon is a whirling cyclone of barely controlled power.
No two chaos dragons look exactly alike, and some people claim that even the same chaos dragon changes its form over time. While all chaos dragons are roughly the same in appearance— four powerful clawed limbs, mighty wings, long serpentine neck topped by a mouth full of dagger-sharp teeth, jagged-edged tail—each has unique markings and scale patterns that differentiate it from others of its kind.
In general, chaos dragons seek to tear down structured societies and civilizations. Those that tend toward good might use positive means to effect change, but those tending to evil are merely violent and murderous. For a brief period of time, a sect of githzerai attempted to make a pact with the chaos dragons, thinking that they could use them just as their enemies, the githyanki, employed red dragons. The chaos dragons’ innate unpredictability and disloyalty ensured the failure of this effort, though the two kinds of creatures may still be encountered side by side in rare instances.
### Combat
A chaos dragon opens combat with its confusion breath weapon, seeking to send its opponents into disarray. It uses its spell-like abilities against particularly vexing foes.
