# Saint Unthar Karrak
**Saint Unthar** is the third of the five prophets of **Amagyr**, venerated and worshiped by the **Miryag** people. He is known as the Hammer of Justice, the Father of Redemption, the Third Light of Amangyr, Sun Jarl, and the first King of Karrak.
# History
Uthar Karrak was a warrior of great renown, and is thought to have been Hunter of the Long Night, though the Varyag and the Hunters deny this. During his adventures as an iternate warrior and slayer of monsters, he met and fell in love with Esta Merlani, the Spirit of Freedom. He converted to the Worship of Amangyr when he found the Aegis of Light (which would later be known as the Aegis of Arensaal) and received a revelation from Amangyr. When Esta Merlani and Annis Dayrin were convicted of heresy against Artrya and sentenced to execution, Unthar lead a force of the faithful to rescue them, and Toman Atvar, from the clutches of the Stormfront. Together the four would travel as exiles, and in their adventures together they (along with Rhynnis Polimon) would come to be known as the Warriors of Amangyr's Light. After the trial of the landing, their fellowships broke. Unthar and Esta had a falling out, and they, along with Annis and Toman, left Sulima with their clansfolk to forge their own nations. Unthar and the clans loyal to Karrak travelled north to the frozen wilds of Skaan. During the early months of the Karrak colony, the native Skannak sent an envoy to seek Karrak aid against the Hultzig. Unthar pledged his aid to the envoy, and with his companions Valdor, Dekkion and Arensaal, they set forth to battle the Huitzig Trolls. Unthar's valor and heroism was earned him the title of Jarl of the Skaanak. He was later crowned as the first King of the Karrak, and also earned the title of Sun Knight of the Uldra, bringing three of the four peoples of Skaan under the banner of the Karrak Kingdom. Unthar's final campaign would be against the Kynar. Together with the Ylvani Yelin, the Karrak threw back the invadin frost giants, and did battle with their king, Torm-Kashiir at Kashiiractyl. Unthar defeated the mighty titan, but was mortally wounded in the battle.

# Church of the Hammer of Justice
The Church of St. Unthar Karrak is the largest peacekeeping force in the Karrak kingdom. The King is the "Inheritor of St. Unthar's Crown," and thus church is an extention of their authority. The king rarely concerns himself with administration of church business, leaving it to his appointed Grand Priest. The Church of St. Unthar is the largest law enforcement force on Skaan. Most laws are seen to by local thanes or barons, but they may call to the church to enforce their will. Church officials also will address crimes comitted across multiple nobles' lands, or with criminals who attempt to evade the justice decreed by a noble.
#### Holy Texts
Valuur ja Karrak (The Epic of the Karrak) is the primary holy text of the worship of St. Unthar. It is a series of disconnected heroic tales about the adventures of Unthar Karrak. It includes accounts of Unthar's battles as one of the Varyag, his time as a Warrior of Amangyr's Light, and his exploits in uniting the land of Skaan and his conquest of the Hultzig and the Kynar.
# Worshipers
The Karrak faithful tend to view religion as a personal matter, and allow others to live their lives as they see fit, so long as they respect the five Cardinal laws. They strive to live with honor, in a manner that their lives will be fondly remembered. This is because one of the core beliefs of the Skaanak faith has embedded itself among the Karrak, the concept of _Lie Eftermin_. Lie Eftermin states that one's soul dwells in the afterlife only for so long as it is remembered by the living. If those memories are positive, then the afterlife is a heavenly experience. If those memories are negative, then the soul is subject to hellish tortures. Souls that remain in the afterlife can grant blessings or bestow curses upon those who remember them, as those memories are a link between the dead and the living. If no memories of a person exist at all, then the soul is extinguished forevermore.
#### Taboo
Like Amangyrans, follower of St. Unthar will not eat shellfish or any "creature of the sea." For most, this includes aquatic mammals, cephalopods and shellfish. Karrak have a strong sense of community, and will not speak of members of that community who have been exiled. If such members return having survived their sentence of exile, Karrak will never speak to that person of their exile, the crime that enacted it, of what they missed during their time away. For the exile, their community disappeared for the time of their sentence, and was restored when it ended. For the community, the same applies to the exile. Karrak will similarly act as if they cannot see or hear people who are clearly serving sentence, whether it be rowing a galley, chained into a stockade, or sitting in the cell of a dungeon.
#### Clergy
The organization of the church is quite simple, with a high priest assigned to the largest population centers, and those high priests have authority over any of the small priests and their various temples, shrines and preachers. The high priests also have command over the Children of Light, the soldiers of the church. Within the church there are also Sacred Orders that are dedicated to the virtues personified by Unthar's companions. **Order of the Lightbringer**, also known as the _Knights of the Shining Maul_, are the elite members of the Children of Light, dedicated to Sera Dekkion the Lightbringer. They are holy warriors, often paladins and warpriests, dedicated to the discovery and destruction of wickedness among the people of the Kingdom. These itinerant knights are beacons of strength and valor, and their reputation has made them famous across the northern world. **The Order of the Grim Hunter**, also known as the _Greycloaks_, are a loose collection of hunters, wildmen and outcasts who, inspired by Unthar's mentor and companion Valdor, concern themselves with the destruction of monsters and creatures who would threaten the well being of those who live in civilized society. It is also thought that the Greycloaks will protect exiles who may have been sentenced unfairly, or who are deemed to be worthy of surviving exile and returned to civilization. The order is rarely seen, and never involve themselves in the business of the church or the kingdom. One does not find wealth or glory or renown with the grim hunters. Those who seek renown should look elsewhere. **The order of the Devoted Defender** are caretakers and healers who by tradition never raise a weapon to other humanoids. While others seek out and destroy evil, those who follow the example of Arensaal seek to spread good. They heal the injure, cure the sick, ease the pain of the suffering and protect those who are endangered. The Order of the Devoted Defender are not as itinerant as the Orders dedicated to Dekkion or Valdor, and are more often found in larger settlements. **The Order of the Forgotten Memory** is a secret society that populated solely by nonhumans. They are devoted to the legacy of Magda of the Red Snow Valley, who was the wife of Unthar Karrak. She was murdered by Unthar's unacknowledge brother Agnar Karrak, who some heretics claim is the actual Saint of Amangyr, and was the one who performed most of the deeds ascribed to his younger brother Unthar. Agnar's name and deeds were stricken from all the histories of the Karrak, but the heresy endures, and still poses a threat to the Kingdom. The Order of the Forgotten Memory is charged with maintaining the forgotten history of the Karrak Kingdom, and burdened with this knowledge they protect the people from threats that officially no longer exist.
# Other Worshipers and Faiths
#### Miryag
The tales of Unthar's heroism still resonate within the people of the Free Cities. To them, Thar is the god of valor and justice, paragon of righteous might. His companions are also venerated as aspects of righteous action. Aldo is the aspect of good deeds done anonymously, Aren is the aspect of good deeds done selflessly, and Akon is the aspect of good deeds done as inspiration to others. The Annisian view of Unthar is more of a cautionary figure than a heoric one. Unthar is seen as someone who acts rashly and seeks a violent solution to all his problems, which often causes grief to those left in his wake, or worsens an already bad situation. The only true peace attained by bloodshed is the peace of the tomb.
#### Varyag
The Varyag view Unthar Karrak as Undar the Umber Skull, champion of slaughter. He is a ravenous killer who lives for nothing more than to inflict pain, injury and death.
#### Ylvani
The Ylvani recognize Unthar as a reincarnation of Amunwier.
