G’chal’trezk The Greenkeeper, Master of Peril and Poison, Night Terror and the Bane of They Who Wander G’chal’trezk (pronounced g-CHAL-trez-k) is the dark and hateful master of the night and wilderness. A green dragon that revels in the suffering and dispair of living creatures. While he is amazingly poweful in his own right, G’chal’trezk does not revel in destruction like Rak'ar'nazak, or lust for domination like Brik’arsaz. Inflicting suffering is an art the truly requires discipline and presicion. To that end, G’chal’trezk holds dominion over the dark and wild places of the world. He stands as a looming shadow of the civilized world, poised to fall upon any creature foolish enough to cross into places where they do not belong, or who take for granted the safety that community offers. History The feral nature of the Age of Darkness and Terror suited G’chal’trezk well. When Yuar'ev Q'nz began his work of shaping Temnia into a civilized world "for the glory of all Dragonkind," G’chal’trezk resented her. He considered marshalling the creatures of the wild and making war against the gold dragon and her council. Two things disauded him: First, was the fact that Yuar'ev Q'nz managed to gain the cooperation of Rak'ar'nazak, who would be a dauning for in her own right. Making war against her and Yuar'ev Q'nz and the others on the council would have meant a quick and certain death. Second was the offer made by Yuar'ev Q'nz. In exchange for his assistance in shaping a "dragonborn" civilization, he would receive a domain of his own, shaped and refined to his own tastes, and kept seperate from the peaceful dragonborn society. Should any of the dragonborn wander into G’chal’trezk's domain, he was free to do with them as they will. Yuar'ev Q'nz knew that G’chal’trezk was more sadist than tyrant, and little could be gained through treachery. G’chal’trezk knew that his only chance at bringing down Yuar'ev Q'nz's civilization would be to sabotage it from within. And so he agreed to join the council in their efforts. Wherever he could, he sewed malice and terror into the dragonborn people, and into their society. If he was going to be party to the creation of a people, they would bear his mark. But the lasting legacy of G’chal’trezk was the fact that dragonborn settlements would be isolated pockets of civilziation in a larger world that was dark and terrible, and only with the Greenwarden's leave could they travel from place to place. Any who would dare to wander off the beaten path would regret such hubris. The Path in the Darkness Most dragonborn don't worship G’chal’trezk so much as they fear his wrath and seek to appease him. He is the monsters that lurk in the darkness, the poison hiding in the plant, the pitfalls shrouded in the mist. The key to surviving in the wilderness is to heed the dictates of the Greenwarden, and respect his dominion. Some do embrace the more viscous aspects of master of peril and poison. Vagrants and brigands who identify more with the terrors of the wild than the civilzed people. Killers who seek to capture and refine poisons to use against their enemies, or as a recreational substances. The legitimacy or heresy of these views is a subject of great debate among the dragonborn people Holy Texts Sha'kos Kaelesh, or "Classics of Antiquety," are a series of stories collected from the ruins of the Dragonborn civilization. The stories are tell tales of the various Dragons gods, most prominantly the members of the Council of Seven. Worshipers Dragonborn who live in the isolated settlements, or who make a living travelling between places will make offerings to the Bane of They Who Wander. Within cities and more civilized lands, worshipers tend to more actively venerate G’chal’trezk, and revel in the cruelty and hatred that he represents. Clergy Given his connection to the wild places, druids, hunters and rangers can be found among G’chal’trezk's faithful. Few devotees of G’chal’trezk can be found among orginized worship of the Dragon Gods, those that do wear green vestments with a black gloves and shoes. Some pattern their clothes in such a manner that they would be much harder to see in a forested environment. Other Worshipers and Faiths Tepisha The Tepishan people know of the old god Chaltress, ruler of the midnight forest. The Sisters of the Hagway had cited him as one of the many dangers that the they could offer protection from.
