## Summary Founded by [[Rhynnis Polimon]], who believed that his new-found conversion of [[Amangyr]] was the ultimate and correct version of the faith. Believes that a final conflict with [Ma'ar Leyna](Nations.md) and he her horde from the lightless depths is coming, and that the Miryag need to be united in order to face that threat. ## History Rhynnis was an effective leader, and trained his children to be effective as well. He was succeeded by his eldest daughter, and the line continued to rule for a period. He selected divine “apostles” to serve as his local rulers, and * Things go poorly for the Sultanate, and a rival religious faction begins to break out, perhaps tied to the Shelitash immigration into the Sultanate. The new / false prophet Qala’ran al Gahar gained popularity. * Gahar is tried and executed by the Church for heresy, in a trial that is blatantly corrupt and unfair. The execution turns Gahar into a martyr. * Iqala bin-Poilmon uses the trial and its unpopularity to try and separate the church from the throne, since the church had been making it increasingly difficult to enact her will. * Local churches begin to embrace the messages of Gahar, and declare that he was divinely inspired. His revelation being a clear sign that the church-as-constructed had become corrupt, and lost sight of their duty. * Iqala died (either suspiciously or not) and her heir was young and unqualified son Isalimar. Isalimar’s mentor / lover Musaan al’Kalish was charismatic, strong, handsome and deeply religious. Iqala didn’t want the throne One of the descendants of Rhynnis ran into trouble during his reign, after his predecessor had made efforts to secularize the throne. This left the Sultanate in a situation where an unqualified young price would have taken the throne, but a more suited (and more religious) leader was available. The council of clerics decided that it would be a good idea to declare this more suited leader as an "adopted son of Rhynnis" and claim that some deed or ritual transubstantiated his blood into Rhynnis. It was thus that the "adoption" path to rulership became available, granting the church authority to crown the next successor of the Ruby Throne, rather than the reigning monarch. ## Government The Polimon Sultanate is a theocracy currently lead by the Divine Sultan **Ibrahim ben-Poliman**. The **Ruby Flame Throne** is the divine right of the descendants of **St. Rhynnis Polimon**, prophet of **Amangyr**. Ibrahim is not actually a descendant of St. Rhynnis, though saying as much is heresy. He gained power by utilizing his position as Caliph to declare the previous sultan, **Pasara ben-Poliman**, a heretic and apostate. The Church of Amangyr then declared that Ibrahim was “posthumous descendant” of St. Rhynnis, and thus the rightful heir to the throne after Pasara’s deposition. The Sultan is the sole source of new laws within the Sultanate, his decrees (when stated from the Ruby Throne) are actually canonized into the **Aman min'Tabhar**, the holy text of the Church of Amangyr. The descendants of Rhynnis Polimon’s siblings also maintain power within the Sultanate , each of his two brothers and three sisters rule over the 5 Emirates. None within the Sultanate can remove land or title from an Emir, nor can any new Emirates be founded, as a matter of divine law. The Emirs are sworn to the Ruby Flame Throne, however, and those who fail in this duty risk being declared apostates and may find their rule transferred to an “adopted child” of their line. Such occasions are rare, and almost always involve the consent of the reigning Sultan. The Sultan and the Emirs can also grant lands to those who they have deemed worthy of the gift. Sultans can grant land in any of the Emirates, while the Emirs only have this power within their own domains, though the prestige and rank of this title are same in either case. These nobles are referred to as Sheiks, and answer to their Emir, regardless of who granted them this title. The only difference is that a Sheik named by the Sultan can only be vacated by the Sultan, and those named by an Emir can only be deposed by one. The Church of Amangyr is a pervasive and powerful force in the Sultanate . It is seens as the embodiment of the will of Amangyr on Temnia. The head of the church holds the title of Caliph, and the current Caliph is Yslila Eru-Jarif. The Caliph leads the grand clergy of the church, appoints the Sultan’s Vizier of Holy Affairs, verifies revelations of Amangyr to the faithful. These revelations, if confirmed by the Sultan, are added to the Alam min'Tabhar. If not, there are still some segments of the faithful (and the clergy) who will still abide by those revelations. The Caliph is also the leader of the entirety of the churches armed force, the Holy Crusade, though this is typically delegated to the Grand Crusader and his subordinates. The church of Amangyr serves two functions in the Sultanate . The first is that of enlightenment: the madrassas of the sultanate are the finest learning institutions in Temnia, greater even than the Tyrennhians Lyceums or Selder University in the Atvar Confederacy. Polimon scholars are found at the forefront of almost every area of scholarly research, from thaumaturgy to mathematics to history and anthropology to xenobiology to art and literature. What really sets the madrassas apart is their willingness to accept anyone with a desire to learn. Money and nobility are not barriers to entry, nor do they clear hurdles along one’s academic journey. The second function of the church is as arbiter of law. No law exists within the Sultanate beyond what exists in the “Six Pillars of Amangyr,” the holy texts of the Polimon church. Even decrees from the Caliph or the Sultan are considered to be scripture. Judgements can be rendered by any Imam, but only those who choose to follow that Imam are bound by his decisions. Clerics and Grand Clerics have greater have authority, and can make use of church forces to enforce those judgements. >[!hidden] >### Geography > >**The Fountains of Hynaar:** Located in the Asul Mountains, just west of Rynmadi, is the legendary source of the river Salia that gives life and spirit to the followers of the great Prophet. Legends state that when Rhynnis Poliman and his followers burned their ships, the flame god Amangyr caused a spring to be born to sustain his chosen people. Whether or not this is true, the fact remains that the fountains from which the spring flows are considered to be a holy site. **The Vasanti Wastes:** The vast desert to the north of the river Salia is called the Vasanti Wastes. Populated by disenfranchised Polimani who have taken to banditry, as well as the ylvani erumë, and a variety of vicious creatures and magical beasts; most intelligent people avoid the Vasanti Wastes like they avoid the wilting plague. ## Inhabitants ... ## Society and Culture ... ## Faith and Religion ...
