Ridged, rust-colored skin covers their chests and stomachs, and a mottled wash of green, brown, and orange colors their fins like aging kelp. Canthari exude a strong fishy odor when above water that, in addition to their already unnerving appearance, repulses most land-dwellers. Canthari stand roughly as tall as humans, yet their fins jut out, giving them an imposing stature. They gain +2 Dexterity, +2 Wisdom and –4 Charisma. - **Size:** Canthari are Medium creatures and thus receive no bonuses or penalties due to their size. - **Type:** Canthari are humanoids with the aquatic subtype. - **Base Speed:** Canthari base land speed is 30 feet. They also have a swim speed of 30 feet. - **Languages:** Canthari begin play speaking Undercommon and Piscat. Canthari with high Intelligence scores can learn any languages they want (except Druidic and other secret languages). See the [[Languages of Temnia]] page for more information about these languages. #### Feat and Skill Racial Traits - **Fish Empathy:** Canthari gain a +4 bonus on Handle Animal checks made to influence fish. #### Senses Racial Traits - **Deepsight:** Canthari can see in the dark up to 120 feet while underwater, but do not gain this benefit out of water. #### Offense Racial Traits - **Stench:** Canthari secrete a terrible scent as a 15-foot aura that nearly every other creature finds offensive. All living creatures (except those with the stench ability) within the aura must succeed at a Fortitude saving throw (DC 10 + 1/2 the canthar’s character level + the canthar’s Constitution modifier) or be sickened for 5 rounds. Creatures that succeed at the saving throw cannot be sickened by the same creature’s stench aura for 24 hours. A delay poison or neutralize poison spell or similar effect removes the effect from the sickened creature. This is a poison effect. #### Other Racial Traits - **Amphibious:** Canthari are amphibious and can breathe both air and water. # Racial Options ## Alternate Racial Traits The following alternate racial traits may be selected in place of one or more of the standard racial traits above. Consult your GM before selecting any of these new options.  - **Strong Swimmer:** Some canthar are more suited to the water than the land. Their swim speed is increased to 40 feet, but their land speed is reduced to 20. This modifies the canthar's speed trait - **Coastal Emissary:** Canthar who live in coastal shallows have a much less distinctive odor in the open air, and are much more likely to engage with trade among the land-dwellers. Canthar with this racial trait gain a +2 racial bonus on diplomacy and bluff checks.
