They are typically the result of rituals of faith, arcane power, or other transformative power that allow a mortal to remake themselves into a purer form of themselves. Some tieflings are born naturally, but this is a rare and spontaneous occurrence that is often seen as ominous, resulting in few such children living to see adulthood, and those who do having had overcome much hardship. ## Physical Description The fiendish blood running through their veins manifests inconsistently, granting tieflings an array of fiendish traits. One tiefling might appear as a human with small horns, a barbed tail, and oddly colored eyes, while another might manifest a mouth of fangs, tiny wings, and claws, and yet another might possess the perpetual smell of blood, foul incenses, and brimstone. Typically, these qualities hearken back in some way to the manner of fiend that spawned the tiefling’s bloodline, but even then the admixture of human and fiendish blood is rarely ruled by sane, mortal laws, and the vast flexibility it produces in tieflings is a thing of wonder, running the gamut from oddly beautiful to utterly terrible. Recreated denote their station within the Dominion by wearing makeup around the eyes and lips, and occassionally with tattoos on the arms and chest.  ## In society Tieflings are rarely found in civilized society. Their transcedance is seen as a mark of wickedness at worst, and a best a crass means of gathering physical or arcane power. Whatever their intension, tieflings are dangerous, and instantly marked as such. For all their menace, tieflings are not any more likely to be cruel or antisocial than others. The fiendish power dormant in all mortal beings capable of free will is much easier to access (as such things are reckoned), and is therefore more attainable to a larger number of people who feel the desire to attempt to transform themselves for personal gain. ## Relations Tieflings do not have a society of their own, as they are far to few to congregate. Tieflings are seen as a menacing and dangerous presence, but there are many places where menacing and dangerous people are needed and welcomed for what they can do. ## Alignment and Religion Despite their fiendish transformation, tieflings can be of any alignment. Some pursue such power for selfish or sadistic reasons, and such a person would only be pushed further by their rebirth, but many others simply desire the power as a means to some other end, either a greater good or simply as a means to an end. ## Adventures Tieflings are beings of purpose and peril. One does not seek to transform themselves bodily for mundane or ephemeral reasons. They are dedicated to some greater purpose (selfish or otherwise) which drives them to seek out the means of transformation. ## Naming Traditions Tieflings do not have naming traditions beyond those of their home culture. Many choose to rename themselves upon their transformation, taking a new name evocative of their new identity. # Racial Traits (13 RP) ### Standard Racial Traits - **Ability Score Racial Traits:** Tieflings are quick in body and mind, but are inherently strange and unnerving. They gain +2 Dexterity, +2 Intelligence, and –2 Charisma. - **Size:** Tieflings are Medium creatures and thus receive no bonuses or penalties due to their size. - **Type:** Tieflings are outsiders with the native subtype. - **Base Speed:** Tieflings base land speed is 30 feet. - **Languages:** Tieflings begin play speaking Common and either Abyssal or Infernal. See the [[Languages of Temnia]] page for more information about these languages. #### Defense Racial Traits - **Fiendish Resistance:** Tieflings have cold resistance 5, electricity resistance 5, and fire resistance 5. #### Feat and Skill Racial Traits - **Skilled:** Tieflings gain a +2 racial bonus on Bluff and Stealth checks. #### Magical Racial Traits - **Spell-like Ability (Sp):** Tieflings can use darkness once per day as a spell-like ability. The caster level for this ability equals the tiefling’s class level. #### Senses Racial Traits - **Darkvision:** Tieflings can see perfectly in the dark for up to 60 feet. #### Other Racial Traits - **Fiendish Sorcery:** Tiefling sorcerers with the Abyssal or Infernal bloodlines treat their Charisma score as 2 points higher for all sorcerer class abilities. # Tiefling Subraces ## Asuric The scions of the exotic and mysterious asuras are swift and wise, but often favor traditional ways over cunning. Asuric tieflings have the following alternate racial traits: - **Ability Score Modifiers:** Asuric tieflings gain +2 Dexterity, +2 Widsom, –2 Intelligence. These ability score modifiers replace the standard ability score modifiers. - **Skilled:** Asuric tieflings gain a +2 racial bonus on Appraise and Knowledge (local) checks. This racial trait replaces skilled. - **Spell-Like Ability (Sp):** Asuric tieflings can use _hideous laughter_ once per day as a spell-like ability (caster level equal to the tiefling's class level). This racial trait replaces spell-like ability. ## Daemonic Daemon-blooded bringers of devastation are shrewd and swift, but their plans frequently exhibit exploitable flaws. Daemonic tieflings have the following alternate racial traits: - **Ability Score Modifiers:** Daemonic tieflings gain +2 Dexterity, +2 Intelligene, –2 Wisdom. These ability score modifiers replace the standard ability score modifiers. - **Skilled:** Daemonic tieflings gain a +2 racial bonus on Disable Device and Slight of Hand checks. This racial trait replaces skilled. - **Spell-Like Ability (Sp):** Daemonic tieflings can use _death knell_ once per day as a spell-like ability (caster level equal to the tiefling's class level). This racial trait replaces spell-like ability. ## Demodandic The burly spawn of the demodand race possess bizarre cunning, but favor brawn to planning. Demodandic tieflings have the following alternate racial traits: - **Ability Score Modifiers:** Demodandic tieflings gain +2 Constitution, +2 Wisdom, –2 Intelligence. These ability score modifiers replace the standard ability score modifiers. - **Skilled:** Demodandic tieflings gain a +2 racial bonus on Intimidate and Knowledge (religion) checks. This racial trait replaces skilled. - **Spell-Like Ability (Sp):** Demodandic tieflings can use _bear's endurance_ once per day as a spell-like ability (caster level equal to the tiefling's class level). This racial trait replaces spell-like ability. ## Demonic Savage and monstrous, the terrifying spawn of demons know the chaotic fury of their Abyssal ancestors. Demonic tieflings have the following alternate racial traits: - **Ability Score Modifiers:** Demonic tieflings gain +2 Strength, +2 Charisma, –2 Intelligence. These ability score modifiers replace the standard ability score modifiers. - **Skilled:** Demonic tieflings gain a +2 racial bonus on Disable Device and Perception checks. These ability score modifiers replace the standard ability score modifiers. - **Skilled:** Diabolic tieflings gain a +2 racial bonus on Diplomacy and Sense Motive checks. This racial trait replaces skilled. - **Spell-Like Ability (Sp):** Diabolic tieflings can use _pyrotechnics_ once per day as a spell-like ability (caster level equal to the tiefling's class level). This racial trait replaces spell-like ability. ## Divic Scouring life like a desert wind, these tieflings possess the precision and exoticism of their div ancestors. Divic tiefling have the following alternate racial traits: - **Ability Score Modifiers:** Divic tieflings gain +2 Dexterity, +2 Charisma, –2 Intelligence. These ability score modifiers replace the standard ability score modifiers. - **Skilled:** Divic tieflings gain a +2 racial bonus on Diplomacy and Linguistics checks. These ability score modifiers replace the standard ability score modifiers. - **Skilled:** Onic tieflings gain a +2 racial bonus on Disguise and Intimidate checks. This racial trait replaces spell-like ability. ## Qlippothic Rare in the extreme, the warped scions of the eldritch qlippoths retain the tenacity and insidiousness of their horrific forbearers. Qlippothic tiefling have the following alternate racial traits: - **Ability Score Modifiers:** Qlippothic tieflings gain +2 Strength, +2 Intelligence, –2 Intelligence. These ability score modifiers replace the standard ability score modifiers. - **Skilled:** Qlippothic tieflings gain a +2 racial bonus on Escape Artist and Survival checks. This racial trait replaces skilled. - **Spell-Like Ability (Sp):** Qlippothic tieflings can use _blur_ once per day as a spell-like ability (caster level equal to the tiefling's class level). This racial trait replaces spell-like ability. ## Rakshasic Deft and charming, these bestial tieflings inherit much of the subtlety and guile of their proud rakshasa progenitors. Rakshasic tiefling have the following alternate racial traits: - **Ability Score Modifiers:** Rakshasic tieflings gain +2 Dexterity, +2 Charisma, –2 Wisdom. These ability score modifiers replace the standard ability score modifiers. - **Skilled:** Rakshasic tieflings gain a +2 racial bonus on Disguise and Sense Motive checks. This racial trait replaces skilled. - **Spell-Like Ability (Sp):** Rakshasic tieflings can use _detect thoughts_ once per day as a spell-like ability (caster level equal to the tiefling's class level).
