# Kalasaam
##### (kal-uh-sawm)
Kalasaam are a symbiote race: The Kalasi people are familiar to most who live on the continent of Antaras, but within the bodies of the Kalasi are a symbiont creature, the Saamar. Rarely seen outside of its host, as Saamar looks like a pale green leech, approximately the size of a human hand. When the Kalasi host dies, the Samaar lives on for a few days, but must find a new Kalsai host before it too dies. If a Samaar does find a new host, the memories and experiences of the fomer host get integrated into the mind of its new host. Once a Samaar bonds to a Kalasi, the union is permanent, and removing the Samaar is fatal to its host. Through this cycle of death and rehosting, Kalasaam are functionally immortal. Such rehosting is usually reserved for members of the same family, as complications can arrise if a host and symbiont are incompatable, but circumstances do not always allow for such selectivity. Living in ignominity is a small price to pay to keep several generations of Kalasaam experiences and learning alive.
## Physical Description
Kalasaam appear very similar to humans on first blush, with simiar heights and build, but their pale skin is marked with a pattern of blueish rosettes that runs from the back of the head, down the sides of the neck, torso and legs. This patterns tend to be darker in color in males than females. Kalasaam hair is straight fine, and runs from dark black to a chestnut brown. Their eyes range from golden yellow or deep brown.

## Alternate Racial Traits
The following alternate racial traits may be selected in place of one or more of the standard racial traits above. Consult your GM before selecting any of these new options.
- **Empathic Persuasion:** Some kalasaam are skilled at subtle psychic manipulation, despite their fellow kalasaam’ dislike of such. Once per day, the noral may manifest empathic connection as a psi-like ability (manifester level equal to 1/2 the noral’s Hit Dice, minimum 1). This replaces kalasaam's psi-like ability racial trait.
- **Feral Saamar:** While a kalasaam bonding with an saamar typically results in improved mental abilities, sometimes it results in the kalasaam taking on more feral aspects. A noral with this trait gains two claw attacks that deal 1d4 points of damage and gains a +2 racial bonus on Survival checks. This replaces the kalasaam's influential and lifebound racial traits.
- **Master of Deception:** All kalasaam are skilled at interacting with other races, but some are unusually skilled in subterfuge. A kalasaam with this trait gains a +4 racial bonus on Bluff checks to convince an opponent that what they are saying is true when they tell a lie. In addition, once per day, the noral can roll twice when making a Bluff or Diplomacy check and take the better roll. This replaces the kalasaam's psi-like ability racial trait.
- **Resilient Symbiote:** The bonding process with an samaar can sometimes unlock a psionic ability to protect instead of attack. A noral with this trait gains the ability to use vigor as a psi-like ability once per day (manifester level equal to noral’s character level.) This replaces the kalasaam's psi-like ability racial trait.
