Most stand between 7 and 8 feet tall and weigh between 280 and 340 pounds. Unlike with most other races, there is no appreciable difference in height or weight between male and female galkans. Galkans have skin in shades or brown or gray skin, mottled with patterns reminiscent of vitiligo. Galkans assign great significance to these markings, and thus wear as little clothing as the environment allows. Galkans have dark hair on their heads, always straight and usually cut short. Male galkans grow facial hair on their chins, but never above their lips. They gain +4 Strength, -2 Dexterity, -2 Intelligence. - **Size:** Galkans are Medium creatures and thus receive no bonuses or penalties due to their size. - **Type:** Galkans are humanoids with the galkan subtype. - **Base Speed:** Galkans base land speed is 30 feet. - **Languages:** Galkan begin play speaking Common and ?. ???????? with high Intelligence scores can learn any languages they want (except Druidic and other secret languages). See the [[Languages of Temnia]] page for more information about these languages. #### Defense Racial Traits - **Mountaineer:** Galkans are immune to altitude sickness and do not lose their Dexterity bonus to AC when making Climb checks or Acrobatics checks to cross narrow or slippery surfaces. - **Stability:** Galkans gain a +4 racial bonus to their Combat Maneuver Defense when resisting a bull rush or trip attempt while standing on the ground. #### Feat and Skill Racial Traits - **Cliff Jumper:** Galkans are adept at negotiating cliff and mountain hazards. They are always considered to have a running start when jumping. - **Suspicious:** Galkans gain a +2 racial bonus to Sense Motive checks. #### sense Racial Traits - **Darkvision:** Galkans can see perfectly in the dark for 60 feet.  #### Other racial traits - **Powerful Build (8 RP):** A galkan's physical stature lets them function in many ways as if they were one size category larger. Treat the galkan's size modifier or special size modifier for CMB or CMD as one size larger if doing so is advantageous to him. A galkan is also considered to be one size larger when determining whether a combat maneuver or creature’s special attacks based on size (such as grab or swallow whole) can affect him. A galkan can use weapons designed for a creature one size larger without penalty. However, his space and reach remain those of a creature of his actual size. The benefits of this racial trait stack with the effects of powers, abilities, and spells that change the subject’s size category, but not their effective size category. <br> # Racial Options <br> ## Alternate Racial Traits The following alternate racial traits may be selected in place of one or more of the standard racial traits above. Consult your GM before selecting any of these new options.  - **Ferocity:** Galkan runts often have to rely on tenacity when they cannot rely on their size. If a galkan falls below 0 but it is not yet dead, it can continue to fight. If it does, it is staggered, and loses 1 hit point each round. It still dies when its hit points reach a negative amount equal to its Constitution score. This racial trait replaces the powerful build racial trait. - **Swamp Dweller:** Lowland galkans have settled into the swamps of the rainlands. While in bogs, wetlands, and other swamp terrain, they can move through natural difficult terrain without penalty, and gain a +2 dodge bonus to AC. This trait replaces the mountaineer and cliff jumper racial traits. - **Tough:** Some galkans are better at taking a punch than standing their ground. Galkans with this racial trait gain a +1 bonus to their natural armor.
