This truth is at the core of orc life. Orcs are not mindless, rapacious savages. They are a fecund people that lack the skills and resources to sustain a civilization on the lifeless ashblown waste that is their home. To prevent their people from starving, the orcs decided they needed two things: more food and fewer orcs. To achieve this, the orcs decided they would sell themselves are mercenaries to the people of Temnia. They would fight anyone and anything, so long as they and their kin were fed in exchange.  ## Physical Description Orcs typically stand as tall as ylvani, but have wider, bulkier frames. Their skin ranges from a deep dark green to an almost bluish gray. Their sunken eyes are red, purple or yellow in color and their hair is always black, and does not change color as age sets in. Their canine teeth are quite prominent, and with enough of an underbite (which is somewhat common) they protrude from orc mouths. These “tusks,” combined with heavy brows and slightly pointed ears, give them their notoriously bestial appearance. Orcs hair is typically thick matted. Most orcs cut it by their own hand to about shoulder length. No orcs would dare to shave their head, unless they were appointed as an Attestant for a warband. Such orcs are not permitted to handle a weapon, and would pay for their life for such sacrilege.  ## In society Orcs are a common sight in Temnia. Wherever there are soldiers, there are almost always orcs mercenaries. People are often unsettled by orcs. Not because they are particularly angry or savage beings. In fact, it’s just the opposite. There’s a fundamental indifference to life and death that suffuses orc behavior. They don’t fear their own death, they don’t value the lives of the friends, their family or their allies. Relations: Humans are the top clients for orc bands. The various human nations quarreling with each other and among themselves, self-styled warlords and would be conquerors make for a steady stream of work for war bands. Dwarves see the orcs as kindred spirits, since they are both a people at constant war and both conduct themselves with impeccable honor. They would never consider using orc mercenaries, since dwarves see fighting for their causes a matter of honor, but there is a deep respect between them. Gnomes are similarly unsettled by orcs and have the added hurdle of being significantly smaller than orcs. Alignment and philosophy: The driving force in orc society is that life is cheap. They are not particular sadistic or cruel, but they are desensitised to the point that they have trouble feeling guilt or empathy towards the people they hurt. This pushes orcs away from good alignments. Orcs also strongly tend towards lawful alignments. It is said that the only thing stronger than an orc’s back is his word. No one has ever recorded an instance of orcs breaking contract, and the discipline of orc troops is legendary.  ## Adventures Orcs live short, brutal lives filled with pain and death. It’s little wonder that some would leave their clan and seek an existence less akin to a meat grinder, but if orcs had the temperament for a pastoral lifestyle, they would not need to sell themselves into constant warfare to feed their people. Orc adventurers are typically those too independent or kind-hearted for life as a mercenary.  ## Names Orc names are usually short and guttural. Full orc names are almost always one or two syllable, while half-orc names are typically longer. Orcs do not have family names, but will sometimes distinguish themselves by using their band name. Honorifics are also rare among orcs.  **Male names:** Rek, Gaald, Thur, Krad, Ryd, Kreg **Female names:** Llo, Fen, Nil, Grot, Duul, Abak  # Racial Traits (12 RP) ### Standard Racial Traits - **Ability Score Racial Traits:** Orcs are powerful, brutal and and relentless.
