The Kython exist to protect the plane of lies, and take on the whole masochism thing because either the POS desensitizes one to the point where you might just stop feeling and get swallowed by the shadow, or because it keeps you from succumbing to the lies that pervade the POS. >There Village of Evernight is a settlement that only exists on the material plane in the far northern hemisphere during the months where the sun never rises. The gain +4 Dexterity, -2 Constitution, -2 Charisma - **Size:** Shadar are Medium creatures and thus receive no bonuses or penalties due to their size. - **Type:** Shadar are outsiders with the native subtype. - **Base Speed:** Shadar have a base speed of 30 feet. - **Languages:** Begin play speaking Shadrae. Shadar with high Intelligence scores can choose from the following: Common, Sylvan,? and ?. See the [[Languages of Temnia]] page for more information about these languages. #### Defense Racial Traits - **Elven Immunities:** Shadar are immune to magic sleep effects and gain a +2 racial saving throw bonus against enchantment spells and effects. - **Energy Resistance:** Shadar gain cold resistance 5 - **Shadow Blending:** Attack made against a shadar in area of dim illumination have a 50% miss chance, rather than 20%. This trait does not grant total concealment, it only increases the miss chance. #### Feat and Skill Racial Traits - **Hide in Shadows (4 RP):** Shadar gain a +2 racial bonus on stealth checks. This bonus increase to +4 in areas of dim illumination or darker. - **Keen Senses:** Shadar gain a +2 racial bonus to Perception checks. #### Magical Racial Traits - **Shadar Magic (2 RP):** Shadar gain a +1 bonus to the DC of any saving throws against spells with the darkness descriptor or of the illusion (shadow) subschool that they cast. Shadar with a Charisma of 11 or higher also gain the following spell-like abilities (caster level is equal to the shadar's character level): 1/Day—*disguise self*, *ghost sound*, *message* #### Senses Racial Traits - **Superior Low-Light Vision (2 RP):** In addition to their darkvision, shadar can see four times as far as humans in conditions of dim light. - **Darkvision:** Shadar can see perfectly in the dark for 60 feet. #### Weakness Racial Traits - **Light-Sensitivity (-1 RP):** - **Sunlight Withering (-1 RP):** Each time a shadar is exposed to natural sunlight, it gains a permanent negative level. This negative level cannot be restored by any means, except on the plane of shadow (where it can be restored normally). # Shadar Subraces ## Haran ... ### Alternate Racial Traits - **Ability Score Modifiers:** The haran are not as quick of body as their kin, are quicker of wit. They gain +2 Dexterity, +2 Intelligence, -2 Charisma. These modifiers replace the standard ability score modifiers. - **Jaded:** The haran's connection to the plane of shadow has not weakened their eyes but rather warped their minds, making them emotionally distant. They gain a +2 racial bonus against fear and despair effects. However, morale bonuses they gain from any source are treated as 2 lower than normal (minimum 0). This trait replaces light sensitivity. - **Low-Light Vision:** In addition to their darkvision, haran can see twice as far as humans in conditions of dim light. This trait replaces superior low-light vision. - **Shadow Resistance:** Haran gain a +2 racial bonus to saving throws against spells and spell-like abilities with the darkness descriptor or of the illusion (shadow) subschool. This trait replaces energy resistance. - **Shadow Sage:** Haran gain a +2 racial bonus to Knowledge (Planes) and Stealth. This replaces the hide in shadows trait. - **Swift as Shadows:** Haran reduce the penalty for using Stealth while moving at full speed by 5, and reduce the Stealth check penalty for sniping by 10. This trait replaces elven immunities. ## Kaiiel Also known as whisperlings, these smaller cousins of the shadar seem to dampen noise them the way a shadow dims light. ### Alternate Racial Traits - **Ability Score Modifiers:** Kaiiel are smaller and more somber than their shadar kin, but coldly calculating. They gain +2 Dexterity, +2 Intelligence, -2 Strength, -4 Charisma. These ability scores modifiers replace the standard ability score modifiers. - **Size:** Kaiiel are Small creatures and gain a +1 size bonus to their AC, a +1 size bonus on attack rolls, a –1 penalty to their CMB and CMD, and a +4 size bonus on Stealth checks. This replaces the size trait. - **Base Speed (Slow Speed):** Kaiiel have a base speed of 20 feet. This trait replaces the speed trait. - **Quieting (2 RP) (Sp):** The noise around a kaiiel is noticeably softer, and they can amplify that effect. Kaiiel can use *silence* as a spell-like ability (caster level equal to the kaiiel's character level), but must center the effect on themselves. - **Silent Hunter:** Kaiiel gain a +2 racial bonus to Survival checks. - **Whisper Ward:** Kaiiel gain a +2 racial bonus on saving throws against sonic spells and effects, and gain sonic resistance 5.
