# Burtosh
##### (ber-TAWSH)
The burtosh are a species of feline humanoids who live on the savannah plains and rolling hills of Western **Corsu**. They are of the dragonborn, and like most of the dragonborn people, their nation is held under the thrall of the **Tyrennhian Imperium**.
## Physical Description
In general, burtosh tower above humans and orcs, standing between six and eight feet tall. They feature cat-like heads atop bodies that are lithe and muscular, covered in a soft, fine fur. Burtosh grow longer hair atop their heads, and in some cases this longer fur can grow down their back, along the line of the jaw and on their forelimbs. Burtosh arms and legs are shaped similarly to other humanoids, but their hands and feet end in short retractable claws. These claws are typically not powerful enough to be used as weapons, but some members of the species—either by quirk of birth or from years of honing—can use them with deadly effect. Like other dragonborn, burtosh hands and feet have four digits each.
## In Society
During the second age, the burtosh were famed warriors. Few could match the courage, power, skill or ferocity of the burtosh in single combat. Their pride was well founded, but did much to hinder the burtosh, both tactically and socially. They conflated heroism the prowess of the warrior with political or tactical acumen, giving their society to those with a temperament ill suited to rulership. The burtosh and the tulosh had always been at odds, seeing themselves as the greatest warriors of the dragonborn. When the tulosh betrayed the dragonborn, the burtosh saw this as proof of the tulosh's inferiority. When the dragonborne forces crumbled before the might of the imperial legions, the tulosh saw this as proof of the burtosh's inferiority.
## Relations
The burtosh have weathered bondage under the imperium better than most of the dragonborn. When the Tyrennhians conquered the dragonborn, many burtosh were pressed into service as personal guards, enforcers and champions, rather than simple laborers. For many, having a place of pride is of greater importance than their status as slaves, or the plight of their fellow dragonborn. Others see following their warrior code as the means of personal salvation, acting rightly in a world gone wrong, or as proof of the worthiness of the dragonborn to be delivered by the Dragon Gods when they return to power. Whatever their motivations, a rift between the burtosh and the other dragonborn has arisen. Many dragonborn see the burtosh as collaborators, willing serving their oppressors. This betrayal was not as complete or as devastating as that of the **tulosh**, but it is enough for some to draw parallels.
## Alignment and Religion
Burtosh value strength and prowess, and the code of war. Burtosh are prideful and often aggressive, but they relish victory not inflicting suffering. Vanquishing an unworthy foe speaks more poorly of the victor than the vanquished. Burtosh tend towards lawful alignment, but are rarely evil.
## Adventures
Burtosh often take on a life of adventure to prove their prowess as a warrior. Some do this as a champion of an individual, or to further some ideology they have tied themselves to, while others simply see the quest as an end unto itself. The burtosh warrior ethos often pulls them towards the life of a fighter, samurai or monk, and their draconic heritage makes them ideal magi. Those who hear the call of service to the divine gravitate towards the life of a paladin.
## Naming Traditions
Burtosh names, like other dragonborn, are sourced from the Draconic language, and descriptive of one's physical characteristics. One would never translate their name into the common tongue, as the translation would end up being insultingly non-specific or inaccurate. Burtosh names are often shorter than most dragonborn names, as the family element of the name is eschewed.

Such creatures retain all their normal traits and abilities, but their type is changed to humanoid and they gain the dragonborn subtype.
